Dr. Lynn Puana

Meet Dr. Lynn Puana, MD Dr. Lynn Welch Puana earned her medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. Over more than two decades in clinical practice, she has dedicated her career to caring for patients with chronic pain, trauma, addiction, and complex medical conditions.

Her passion for proactive, whole-person care was deeply shaped by a personal tragedy: her father’s missed Alzheimer’s diagnosis, which was only recognized after he had already progressed to end-stage disease. This experience cemented her core belief: we must care for the brain proactively, with the same commitment we give to heart disease or cancer prevention.

Driven by both science and compassion, Dr. Puana designed PICMI around the most advanced diagnostic tools available today, including genomic testing, functional brain mapping, and state-regulated psychedelic-assisted treatments. Her goal is to help patients understand why they think, feel, and function the way they do—bringing clarity where there has been confusion.

A practicing pain physician on the Big Island of Hawaii since 2008, Dr. Puana also founded &G Labs Hawaii, LLC. Recognizing the huge need for high-level expert care for patients treated with pain medications, she partnered with world-renowned clinical chemist and toxicologist Dr. Alan Wu to bring the most precise lab testing to Hawaii.

Through her integrative therapies and precise diagnostics, Dr. Puana’s mission is to help every patient build a healthier, stronger version of themselves. It is this exact mission—to support those who have endured trauma and fought to reclaim their lives—that inspired her to create the Dr. Lynn Puana Grant for Veterans.
